Kathleen Denigan
Kathleen Denigan, author, graphic designer and artist, lives in Far North Queensland, Australia, with her partner and three children.
In 2008 she recieved a Recognition of Excellence Commendation (right) for her work as a Regional Coordinator for the Office for Women.
Kathleen's first book Norman Baird – a spark within is a non-fiction fully illustrated biography of an Aboriginal Australian Anzac, Norman Baird (1888-1970). It provides an insight into Queensland’s draconian legislation which controlled all aspects of an Aboriginal person’s life including their ability to marry, travel, own property and raise children.
Her second book Reflections in Yarrabah was launched on 30 September 2008.
Kathleen has pursued her interest in the culture and history of Aboriginal
people for many years and her work has included performing
arts, visual arts and multimedia. She has worked with elders,
youth and children to retell the history of communities
in an engaging way. She has been based in Cairns, Far
North Queensland, for thirteen years and has worked with the
communities of Hope Vale, Wujal Wujal, Cooktown, Yarrabah, Cairns
and Coen.
